The state semifinals were held Monday, March 31st. The Wildcats had two section champions and one runner up. Tony Golden and Gary Chew each won their weightclass easily. It will be Chews third trip to state and Goldens second. Each medaled last year at the state final and will look to add another medal to their collection on Friday, Aprill 18th at the state final. Chew finished the day with a 275 pound clean and jerk along with a 245 pound bench press for a 520 total. Golden had a 275 bench press and a 255 clean and jerk for a 530 total. John Tedesco had his best meet of the year with a 285 bench and a 275 clean and jerk for a 560 total. The total almost assures Tedesco of being the 2008 Big Cat. Tedesco still has an outside shot of making state with a wild card birth. Ethan Ellis finished 3rd at the meet with a 300 total. Ellis just missed a 180 clean and jerk, that would have given him a 325 and second place. Josh Mcintosh rose to the occasion with a 270 pound clean just missing the jerk. The lift would have given him 3rd in the 154. Andrew Coker struggled at the meet bombing on all of his bench press attempts. Noah Byler and Remington Walker were no shows and Terry Stinson failed to make weight. |
